1 injured after El Cerrito shooting, school temporarily placed on lockdown

EL CERRITO, Calif. (KRON) — One person was injured after a shooting Tuesday morning in El Cerrito, the El Cerrito Police Department (ECPD) said. The shooting happened around 10:30 a.m. on the 1800 block of Elm Street near Summit K2 school.

Officers arrived at the scene and located one person who had been shot, according to ECPD. They shortly detained a person who was identified as the shooter.

The victim was airlifted to a hospital and is currently in critical condition, police said. The school was temporarily placed on precautionary lockdown.

Police said the lockdown has since been lifted. Police departments from Richmond and Kensington helped ECPD secure the scene.

It is unknown if the victim and shooter knew each other, police said.
