12 killed, 25 injured in Karak accident

KARAK: At least 12 persons, including a woman and her daughter, were killed and 25 others sustained injuries in a traffic accident on the Indus Highway in Ambiri Kalla area in Karak district on Saturday.

According to reports, the accident occurred near the Ambiri Kalla Chowk in Takht-e-Nusrati tehsil of Karak district where a heavy loaded container truck lost control due to brake failure and ran over several vehicles and pedestrians before crashing into a passenger coach.

This resulted in the deaths of 12 people, including women and children, while more than 25 others sustained injuries. Among the deceased were local residents as well as passengers. Eyewitnesses said there was chaos at the scene of accident in Ambiri Kalla Chowk as the injured screamed and cried for help. They said several people were trapped under the container. Upon receiving information, local residents, police and rescue teams rushed to the site. They provided first aid to the injured before transferring them to the District Headquarters Hospital in Karak. Some critically injured persons were later moved to hospitals in Kohat and Peshawar. It was reported that the death toll could rise. Hospital sources confirmed the deaths of nine persons and 13 injured, while rescue sources said that a total of 12 persons had died and 25 others injured. Six of the deceased have been identified, including a woman named Anila, wife of Shakir, her young daughter, and Muhammad Ishaq, Awam Khan, Saleem Muhammad, and Qaiser Khan, all residents of Karak tehsil.
