'Don't let this be you': Aurora police catch drivers without tags, licenses
DENVER (KDVR) — It’s only been one day since Aurora police said they would ramp up traffic enforcement efforts, and the department has already caught a handful of perpetrators.
On Friday, the Aurora Police Department gave a heads-up to all drivers that it would be ramping up traffic enforcement during the holiday week, beginning on Monday. Police said they would cite anyone caught speeding, driving aggressively or driving with registration violations.
The department also said they would automatically impound cars if the driver didn’t have a license or insurance, or had registration violations.
And the department meant it.
On Tuesday, Aurora police shared examples of drivers who have already been caught on X.
Within the first day of the enforcement period, Aurora police said officers saw tags that expired in February 2024 — which is cause for a citation. The driver also had an arrest warrant for no insurance, no driver’s license and no insurance, so, the vehicle was towed.
In another example, Aurora police said commercial vehicles were not exempt from the requirements. The department caught a commercial truck with tags that expired in 2023 and its back tire was flat.
Fake tags will also not be accepted. Aurora police said they caught a driver traveling with a fake temporary tag. The driver received a mandatory court appearance before a judge.
Officers will also be ticketing speeders. They posted on X about catching a driver going 105 mph in a 60 mph construction zone.
The department posted two other photos of cars being towed and left a stern message for drivers.
“Don’t let this be you today. Don’t want to have updated registration? Insurance? Or a driver’s license? Your vehicle will be towed. And you will be required to go to court,” said the Aurora Police Department on X.
While it’s only day two of the enforcement period, Aurora police said this is not a short-term operation. However, deadly traffic incidents do go up during the holidays, so be sure your information is up to date before you hit the road and drive responsibly.
