Two-car crash in Adams County sends six to hospital, including children

Six people, including two children, have been hospitalized after a serious Thanksgiving Day crash at the intersection of East 120th Avenue and Potomac Street in Adams County.

The South Adams County Fire Department first posted about the crash on X on Thursday afternoon. The department warned travelers that 120th was closed in both directions between Sable and Southgate boulevards.

“Several individuals have been taken to local hospitals with injuries that are currently not specified. Our thoughts are with them and their loved ones during this difficult time,” department officials wrote in that post.

The accident occurred at 3:32 p.m. and was caused by one vehicle, a Jeep, disregarding a “traffic control device” on Potomac and entering the intersection, according to a summary released by the State Patrol.

Google Maps shows that there are stop signs for traffic on Potomac but no stop signs for vehicles on 120th Avenue at that intersection.

The Jeep struck the side of a Ford Escape SUV in the intersection. The driver and passenger of the Jeep were ejected from the vehicle and were taken to a hospital with what State Patrol officials described as “possible critical injuries.”

Two adults and two children riding in the Ford also were taken to a hospital. No information was immediately available on their injuries.
