Under Secretary Fernandez’s Travel to Qatar, Oman, and the United Arab Emirates – United States Department of State

Under Secretary for Economic Growth, Energy, and the Environment Jose W. Fernandez will lead a delegation of Michigan government officials and private sector representatives to Qatar, Oman, and the United Arab Emirates from December 7-11 to spur greater economic cooperation between Michigan and Gulf countries.

The delegation is being co-led by the American Arab Chamber of Commerce and the Michigan Municipal League Foundation. The delegation includes city, state, and county government officials from Michigan, along with representatives from Michigan companies.

In Qatar, Under Secretary Fernandez will meet with officials from the Ministry of Commerce and Industry, Ministry of Communications and Information Technology, and representatives from the private sector. He will participate in the Doha Forum on December 8.

In Oman, Under Secretary Fernandez will give opening remarks at an event celebrating the 15th anniversary of the signing of the U.S.-Oman Free Trade Agreement and hold meetings with Omani government officials and private sector representatives about opportunities for broader economic cooperation with the region.

In the United Arab Emirates, Under Secretary Fernandez will speak with students and faculty at the New York University campus in Abu Dhabi to highlight efforts, such as the startup accelerator startAD, that are building a vibrant community of innovative global and regional entrepreneurs. He will also participate in high-level discussions focused on deepening U.S.-United Arab Emirates economic ties and fostering collaboration on strategic investment initiatives.
