2 in custody after Cicero officer shot during traffic stop
Two people were arrested after a Cicero police officer was shot overnight Saturday, according to Cicero police.
At 12:45 a.m. near the intersection of West 35th Street and South 61st Court, Cicero police officers were approaching a car that was illegally double parked when an occupant shot at them, Cicero police said.
An officer — a 29-year-old who has been with Cicero police for five years — was shot in the back and taken to Loyola University Medical Center in serious condition, Cicero police said. He and his partner had been working in the special operation division in civilian clothes.
“At this time, the connection between the suspects and the shooting is still under investigation,” Cicero Police Supt. Thomas Boyle said in a statement. “This violent act underscores the dangers faced by law enforcement officers every day while they work to protect the community.”
