New pizza joint in Hegenberger corridor says it has not had issues
OAKLAND, Calif. (KRON) — The rampant crime in Oakland’s Hegenberger corridor has caused several businesses in the area to close, but one newly-opened restaurant says it has not had issues.
Round Table Pizza opened at 8450 Edgewater Drive in June despite the robberies and car break-ins in the area.
Corporate officials say there have been no problems so far, but precautions were taken.
“It’s been great so far. We’re taking no cash, and right now the dining room is not open. We feel really good about it right now. We look forward to being cemented in the Oakland area and being there for a very, very long time,” said Lisa Merrell, Round Table’s vice president of operations.
Raising Cane’s and Taco Bell made the same decision in closing their dining room, only providing drive-through service. Cane’s made the move due to break-ins in the parking lot while customers came in to get their food.
In-N-Out Burger, Denny’s and Black Bear Diner all closed their locations in the Hegenberger corridor.
Round Table will celebrate the new location with a “Grand Opening” ceremony on Thursday.
