Alameda Co. Sheriff's Office seek public's help in 39-year-old Thanksgiving cold case

(KRON) – The Alameda County Sheriff’s Office (ACSO) is asking for the public help’s in an unsolved homicide that occurred on Thanksgiving Day, Nov. 28, 1985.

Authorities said the then-unidentified male victim was found dead from a gunshot wound in only his underwear and socks off of Niles Canyon Road. In 2006, the ACSO received word that a DNA match had identified the John Doe as 24-year-old Juan Mateo.

The Sheriff’s Office said anyone with information on this cold case anniversary can call investigators at 510-667-3661. Witnesses are asked to contact the tip line at 510-667-3622.
