Amazon offering $25 flights for Prime members — but only for one eligible group

(NEXSTAR) – Starting Monday, select Amazon Prime members who are enrolled in the company’s young adult plan can book a flight for as little as $25.

The deal, which runs through Friday, aims to offer 1,000 bookings per day for a total of 5,000 $25 fares.

This is Amazon’s second year offering the promotion, which it runs in partnership with StudentUniverse, a youth-focused travel company.

“The holidays are a time to gather with loved ones, make memories, and create traditions, and we’re happy to help make flying more affordable for young adults who want to spend this important time with family and friends,” Carmen Nestares, the vice president of U.S. Prime and Marketing Tech at Amazon, said in a press release issued last week.

To qualify for the fares, Amazon users must be subscribed to the young adult plan, which is open to members ages 18–24, along with “higher education student[s] of any age.” Those users must also sign up for a free StudentUniverse account to “activate the benefit,” according to the steps outlined by Amazon.

Eligible members are then instructed to log on to the discount page at 1 p.m. ET (10 am. EST) every day through Friday, for a chance to book one of the 1,000 flights available each day.

Access to the StudentUniverse website was limited due to a “high volume of traffic” on Monday morning, while a page containing the offer’s terms and restrictions was not immediately available to view. USA Today reported that the ticket fare does not cover travel insurance or bag fees.

Amazon’s Prime membership for young adults offers Prime benefits to qualifying users at $7.49 per month or $69 per year, which is just under half the regular rate of $14.99 per month or $139 per year. Qualifying users can also get a free trial of the young adult plan for six months.
