BET+ Essentials Hits Roku Alongside 11 New Free Channels
Roku added the BET+ Essentials subscription channel and 11 new free channels, bringing it’s total free channels to more than 450.
Roku is the number one streaming device for a reason—the content that’s available for free through the device. (Two reasons if you want to add that it’s the most affordable streamer on the market.)And now, it’s added even more free content and a popular new subscription channel.
In an announcement on Tuesday, Roku revealed that it has launched BET+ Essentials on the Roku Channel. BET+ Essentials is a subscription channel, but the company also quietly added 11 new free channels to its lineup, bringing its total live channels to more than 450.
BET+ Essentials is “the #1 streaming service dedicated to lovers of Black content,” according to the press release, but you will have to pay a subscription fee to access it. Roku viewers can subscribe to the BET+ Essentials channel for $5.99 per month. That does include “minimal ads,” the press release says. So, if you’re not into ads, you can opt to pay $10.99 for the ad-free version.
On BET+, you’ll find “exclusive original content from creators like Tyler Perry, Gabrielle Union, Lee Daniels, Mary J. Blige, Kevin Hart, Kenya Barris, and more,” the press release says. This includes shows like “The Family Business,” “The Ms. Pat Show,” and “The Black Hamptons.”
In addition to all the new offerings from BET+ Essentials, Roku quietly added 11 additional free channels, including UFC, Bellator MMA, The Connors, Outer Sphere, and Nash Bridges. Roku has also been loading up on original content lately, as well, including plenty of holiday content.
You don’t necessarily need a Roku streaming device to access the Roku Channel. You can connect in a web browser, or download the app on your ‘other’ streamer, including some Samsung TVs, Amazon Fire TV devices, and Android TV OS.
