US President Joe Biden on Saturday repeatedly called Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump a “loser” and accused him of not caring about union workers during a campaign event in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. He also stressed the need for “decency” in the upcoming election.
Biden directed his remarks at Philadelphia union workers, warning that if Trump were re-elected, he would likely eliminate health care and pension benefits for workers.
“The last thing we need is for Trump to get elected and take away all the things we’ve accomplished,” the president told the audience, as quoted by Fox News.
“Donald Trump is a loser,” Biden said. “He’s a loser as a candidate, and more importantly in my view—I’m just going to say it straight up—he’s a loser as a man,” he added.
Philadelphia has traditionally supported Democratic candidates but has recently shown signs of shifting toward Trump, according to media reports.
The president also stressed the importance of the election by framing it as a choice between “decency” and “lack of decency.”
“Not a joke, not hyperbole, not about Democrat or Republican. This is decency versus lack of decency,” Biden said. “This is about character.”
In response to Biden’s remarks, Trump’s campaign issued a statement saying, “Kamala and the radical liberals lack decency. President Trump represents decency,” according to a report by The Hill.
During the event, Biden indirectly criticised Tesla CEO Elon Musk, referring to an unnamed “illegal worker” who supports Trump financially. Musk, a prominent Trump supporter, has made significant contributions to Trump’s re-election efforts.
Polls show a tight race in Pennsylvania, with Trump holding a narrow lead over Democratic presidential candidate Kamala Harris, according to The Hill and Decision Desk HQ’s polling average.
