Blinken warns of relationship between Russia and North Korea

WASHINGTON (NEXSTAR) — Secretary of State Antony Blinken is raising concerns about the growing relationship between Russia and North Korea. It comes as North Korea tested a ballistic missile while Blinken visited South Korea Monday.

“We condemn the DPRK’s missile launch just today, yet another violation of multiple U.N. Security Council resolutions,” Blinken said.

In Blinken’s likely last overseas trip before leaving office, he warned of the deepening relationship between Russia and North Korea. It comes as thousands of North Korean troops have joined Russia on the battlefield in Ukraine.

“Now, we have reason to believe that Moscow intends to share advanced space and satellite technology with Pyongyang,” Blinken said.

Both Republicans and Democrats in Congress say the alliance of the two adversaries is concerning.

“North Korea is invading Europe right now, which is a testament to this axis of authoritarianism,” Rep. Jake Auchincloss (D-Mass.) said.

Massachusetts Democrat Jake Auchincloss says the U.S. should support Ukraine and allies facing threats globally. He says he’s concerned about that under President-elect Donald Trump.

“That requires an America Strong approach with our allies, not an America First approach that retreats behind pretend walls,” Auchincloss said.

Republican Congress members, like Michigan’s Rep. Tim Walberg say they trust the incoming president’s foreign policy.

“The leadership of this incoming administration will establish the course,” Walberg said.

Georgia Congressman Buddy Carter says the global threats only add urgency to confirming President-elect Trump’s cabinet picks.

“The longer it takes to have them confirmed, the more we’re going to be in danger,” Carter said.

The Senate holds its first hearing for Defense Secretary nominee Pete Hegseth next week.
