CHP motorcycle officer severely injured in 3-vehicle crash in L.A. County

A motorcycle officer with the California Highway Patrol was severely injured in what appears to be a three-vehicle collision in Palmdale on Tuesday.

Details are extremely limited at this time, but officials with the Los Angeles County Fire Department confirmed to KTLA that medical personnel responded to the intersection of Columbia Way and 6th Street West in Palmdale at around 1:15 p.m. on reports of the crash.

In footage of the aftermath obtained by KTLA, the officer’s motorcycle can be seen completely destroyed on the heavily damaged front end of a gray Jeep Cherokee.

Nearby, a white Nissan Sentra can also be seen with damage to its front end.

Debris from the crash, including the CHP officer’s boots, belt and uniform, were strewn across the roadway between the three vehicles.

Preliminary information indicates that the CHP officer, who was rushed to a nearby Antelope Valley hospital in critical condition, was the only person injured during the incident.

It is unclear if alcohol and/or drugs may have been a factor in the crash.

Officers with CHP had the area cordoned off with yellow tape while they investigated the cause of the crash before crews work to clear the debris.

No additional information was provided.
