Chris Evans’ MCU Return For Avengers: Doomsday Has Fans Upset: ‘It’s Like Endgame Didn’t Even Matter’

Chris Evans is the latest MCU star to return to the franchise. According to reportedly he will be seen joining the Marvel Cinematic Universe alongside Robert Downey Jr in Avengers: Doomsday. Directed by Russo Brothers the film reportedly will see Evans in some capacity but it is unclear if he will be returning as Captain America. However, the news has not gone well with fans.

First Robert Downey Jr, and now Chris Evans is reportedly bringing his iconic characters back, which was given an honourable farewell in Avengers: Endgame. Deadline has also reported that Doomsday will see Anthony Mackie reprise his role as Sam Wilson, aka the new Captain America. Back in Endgame Evans’ Rogers had passed the iconic shield to Wilson before biding farewell to the franchise.

The Wrap reported that Chris Evans will rejoin the MCU in Avengers: Doomsday in 2026. Since the upcoming MCU projects include multiple timelines Evans could return as a new version of his character or a completely different character. After Deadpool 3 it is highly likely he will return for another cameo and could be in any capacity. It seems like Doomsday is preparing for a massive reunion of several Marvel characters.

Coming back to his Deadpool 3 cameo, Chris appeared in the film as original Fantastic Four character Johnny Storm. While the cameo had fans excited for just that, the reports of Evans’ possible big return to MCU has not gotten happy response from many fans. One X user said, “Ok so endgame just like didn’t matter huh,” while another added, “they’re just doing it for nostlagia”.

For the unversed, Avengers: Doomsday is currently scheduled for release on May 1, 2026.
