Class action lawsuit alleges Subway sandwiches contain less meat than advertised
A new lawsuit claims that Subway has “grossly misled” its customers by advertising sandwiches with more meat than what’s actually delivered.
The proposed class action lawsuit, filed on Monday in federal court in Brooklyn, New York, claims that Subway’s ads for its Steak & Cheese sandwich show layers of meat, but in reality, the sandwich has more bread than filing, Reuters reported.
The lead plaintiff, Anna Tollison of Queens, said she bought a Steak & Cheese sandwich at a local Subway for $7.61. She claims that when she opened the sandwich, she found 200% less meat than she saw advertised.
Tollison is seeking unspecified damages for anyone who purchased a Steak and cheese sandwich at any Subway in the state from Oct. 28, 2021, to the present.
Tollison’s lawyer, Anthony Russo, told Reuters that the case is “an egregious example of the type of advertising we’re trying to stop.”
Similar cases have been filed against McDonald’s, Wendy’s and Taco Bell for skimping out on ingredients. Those cases were dismissed. A similar suit against Burger King is pending in federal court, according to Reuters.
Subway did not return KTLA’s request for comment.
