CPW searching for deer poacher in Sunday incident near Sedalia

DENVER (KDVR) — Colorado Parks and Wildlife is looking for a hunter accused of poaching on private property near Sedalia on Sunday.

According to CPW, the incident involved a buck mule deer about a mile west of Sedalia and occurred at about noon on Sunday. A witness told CPW they heard a gunshot and saw a man trespassing on private property near Highway 105 and Highway 67.

The witness said that after the suspect left the area, they noticed an abandoned deer carcass. The hunter did not have permission from the landowners to hunt on the property, as required by law. In fact, trespassing is a common way to lose a hunting license. According to CPW, violators can be suspended for up to five years for trespassing.

CPW described the hunter as a white man in his 20s, about six-foot tall with a medium build, and driving a gray Chevy truck with an extended cab and possible out-of-state license plates.

The truck also had a sticker in the lower, driver’s side corner of the back window, and a black toolbox with a red logo was in the center of the truck bed. The front bumper appeared to be black and CPW said it may be an aftermarket bumper.

Anyone with information about this case should call 303-291-7227. Callers can remain anonymous while qualifying for a reward if charges are filed by calling CPW’s Operation Game Thief at 1-877-COLO-OGT.
