DENVER (KDVR) – Snow showers will move into the high country tonight, bringing a few inches of fresh snow to the mountains as Denver’s weather has slow-clearing skies.

Weather tonight: Snow in the high country

Snow showers will continue for the mountains Friday night with winter storm warnings and winter weather advisories in effect through early Saturday morning. Most areas will see 2-8 inches, with up to a foot near Rabbit Ears Pass.

The Front Range will keep some extra clouds as winds stay light. Overnight low temperatures are still above average as we dip into the upper 20s.

Weather tomorrow: Partly cloudy skies, mild

The Front Range will enjoy a mix of sun and clouds for Saturday afternoon with comfy highs in the middle 50s. Light snow is possible in the mountains, but minimal accumulation is expected.

Looking ahead: Mild before a New Year’s cool down

Avalanche watches and warnings are in effect for the mountains until Monday evening. It is suggested to avoid the backcountry this weekend as avalanches can be triggered quickly.

Avalanche danger is high in the backcountry this weekend.

Sunday looks nice for the metro with sunny skies and highs nearing 60 degrees. The mountains will see extra clouds on Sunday before snow pushes back in later and into Monday. The west metro area could see some light rain early Monday morning. There will be a good amount of snow in the high country and some mountain towns could see up to a foot of snow by Monday afternoon.

Denver will be breezy on Monday with partly cloudy skies and highs in the upper 40s. Tuesday will be a cooler end of 2024 with highs in the upper 30s and sunny skies.

New Year’s Day will be close to seasonal averages as highs reach the lower 40s with mainly sunny skies. Temperatures then begin to climb a little, hitting the mid-40s on Thursday and the low 50s on Friday as clouds increase through the end of the week.
