Department of State Hosts 2024 U.S.-Vietnam Energy Security Dialogue – United States Department of State

As the United States and Vietnam look towards celebrating 30 years of normalized relations in 2025, the State Department’s Bureau of Energy Resources (ENR) Acting Assistant Secretary Laura Lochman and Vietnam’s Ministry of Industry and Trade Vice Minister Nguyen Hoang Long led the fifth annual U.S.-Vietnam Energy Security Dialogue on November 15 in Washington, DC. The U.S. delegation also included USAID’s Assistant Administrator for Asia, Michael Schiffer.

The two sides discussed key areas for continued bilateral energy cooperation, including power market development, energy conservation and efficiency, transmission, power storage, rare earth elements and critical mineral supply chains, and the steps necessary for an energy transition that will achieve net-zero emissions by 2050. The dialogue showcased the dynamic U.S.-Vietnam technology-focused energy partnership and underscored a shared commitment to economic growth and innovation as the cornerstone of our relationship.
