DOGE duo of Musk and Ramaswamy criticise ‘deep state’ bureaucracy, label it threat to democracy – Times of India
Elon Musk and Republican leader Vivek Ramaswamy weighed in on accusations surrounding “deep state” bureaucracy on Sunday, spurred by MSNBC’s discussions about Kash Patel.
The MSNBC panel called Patel “the most dangerous nominee we’ve seen yet to our democracy,” a statement that drew sharp rebukes from conservative figures.
Stephen Miller, a senior adviser to former President Donald Trump, criticised the rhetoric, claiming terms like “our democracy” and “FBI independence” were code for unchecked governmental power.
Miller wrote a post on social media platform X, “When the radical left says ‘our democracy,’ they mean ‘our unelected deep state.’ When they say ‘FBI independence,’ they mean ‘unchecked law enforcement power immune from all democratic accountability.’”
Elon Musk responded to Miller’s post, calling it “Exactly. Orwellian double-speak.” This comment quickly caught the attention of Vivek Ramaswamy, who wrote, “The real ‘threat to our democracy’ is the unelected federal bureaucracy.”
Users on social media shared mixed reactions. Some agreed, arguing the phrase “our democracy” is weaponised to brand the US as Democrat-controlled. One user wrote, “We all know America is a constitutional republic. But Dems don’t want you saying ‘republic,’ because it’s so close to ‘Republican.’”
Others resorted to more extreme views, with one comment labelling the left as “lying trash.”
The conversation also turned lighthearted with memes linking Musk and Ramaswamy’s future role in Trump’s administration. One user posted a meme captioned, “DOGE solves this corrupt bureaucracy,” referring to the newly announced Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE).
Musk and Ramaswamy to lead Trump’s DOGE initiative
Elon Musk and Vivek Ramaswamy will soon spearhead the Department of Government Efficiency, a new initiative under Trump’s forthcoming administration. Despite its formal-sounding name, DOGE is not a government agency but an external body tasked with advising the White House on government reform.
According to Trump, DOGE will partner with the Office of Management and Budget to overhaul federal bureaucracy, slash excessive regulations, and cut wasteful spending.
Musk has called DOGE’s mission a chance to “send shockwaves through the system,” while Trump described it as potentially becoming “the Manhattan Project of our time.”
While DOGE’s exact structure remains unclear, it is expected to operate outside traditional government regulations. This raises questions about accountability, as neither Musk nor Ramaswamy will be bound by federal employee disclosure requirements.
The initiative will conclude by July 4, 2026, in line with Trump’s “Save America” movement.
DOGE’s acronym nods to Musk’s enthusiasm for Dogecoin, a cryptocurrency he has frequently championed.
