Emily In Rome Next? French President Emmanuel Macron Will ‘Fight Hard’ To Keep Her In Paris

The Netflix show Emily In Paris season 4 ended with the surprise twist of Emily Cooper ditching the City of Light for Rome in Italy. But French President Emmanuel Macron has vowed that he will ‘fight hard’ to keep Emily in Paris.

Macron reportedly told Variety that, “We will ask them to remain in Paris, Emily in Paris in Rome doesn’t make sense.”

Macron’s desire makes sense considering the impact the show has had on France’s tourism. According to a survey conducted by market research company Ifop for France’s National Center of Cinematography, one out of 10 tourists said they visited Paris after watching a movie or TV series. Emily In Paris (38%), starring Lily Collins, was one of them.

Macron told Variety that the show about an American’s life in Paris is “good for the image of France.”

Interestingly, the French President’s wife Brigitte Macron has also had a small role in the show. She appeared in a cameo in season 4 of Emily In Paris.

Saying he was super proud of his wife, Macron added, “It’s just a few minutes, but I think it was a very good moment for her.”

But Rome seems keen on welcoming Emily, as was reflected in an X post by the city’s Mayor Roberto Gualtieri. “Dear Emmanuel Macron, don’t worry: Emily is doing great in Rome. And one can’t control the heart: let’s let her choose,” his post read.

In an interview The Hollywood Reporter, he reportedly hoped that Macron was joking. “He ought to know that a production company like Netflix does not take orders from heads of state,” Gualtieri said.
