Ex-wife, 4 others arrested in ambush-style killing of Woodland Hills doctor

Three additional suspects have been arrested in the targeted slaying of a Woodland Hills doctor including his ex-wife, police announced Thursday.

On Aug. 23, while walking to his car, Hamid Mirshojae, 61, was shot and killed in the parking lot outside of his clinic at the Warner Plaza Medical Center located at Topanga Canyon Boulevard and Oxnard Street at around 5:30 p.m.

He was killed in an “ambush-style attack” before the gunman fled the scene, the Los Angeles Police Department said.

Witnesses heard gunshots and saw a body on the ground in the parking lot. Mirshojae was pronounced dead at the scene by paramedics.

On Thursday, police appeared to be searching the Calabasas home of Mirshojae’s ex-wife, Ahang Mirshojae, hours before her arrest was announced.

In August, Ahang reportedly denied any involvement in the crimes, saying, “It’s all lies,” the L.A. Times reported.

Earlier this week on Tuesday, police announced two suspects were also arrested — Evan Hardman, 41, from Tomball, Texas and Rose Sweeting, 40, Reseda.

Both were taken into custody on Dec. 10 — Sweeting in the San Fernando Valley and Hardman in the greater Houston area, for murder, police said.

Police did not release details on what the suspects’ accused roles in Mirshojae’s death may be or a possible motive for the deadly attack.

It remains unclear whether those assailants are connected to his murder.

Originally from Iran, Mirshojae had more than two decades of experience providing urgent and emergency care and more than 10 years in addiction medicine. According to his biography, his patients included “celebrities, movie stars, athletes and many people from different walks of life.”

Patients of Mirshojae described him as a caring person who loved helping others out.

“Everyone in the Woodland Hills area, even in L.A., they know him because he was a really good doctor,” said Maryem Alaei, the victim’s family friend. “Always laughing, always joking, always helping people.”

Alaei said she and others are stunned and devastated over the beloved doctor’s death.

“Every day he’s at work, around 4 to 5 a.m. he goes to this ER center and he’s just helping people and he comes back at night and last night, somebody was waiting for him here,” Alaei said in August.

His wife was reportedly visiting family overseas in Turkey with the couple’s 6-month-old baby at the time of the shooting. It was reported that she quickly flew back to the U.S. when she learned of her husband’s murder.

Mirshojae is survived by his wife and four children.
