Firefighters battle flames, clutter in Quincy house fire that displaced 9

Crews battled more than just flames following a basement fire on Tuesday afternoon.

Officials say around 3:30 p.m. they responded to a 911 call for a fire at a split-level home on Chubbuck Street.

Arriving crews saw flames shooting from the basement that eventually spread to the first floor.

According to Quincy’s Deputy Fire Chief, a 2nd alarm was called due to the large amount of clutter in the house, along with clothing “about chest high” in the basement, which made firefighting efforts difficult.

Crews eventually corralled the flames and limited fire damage to the basement and first floor.

Nine occupants, 6 on the right-hand side and 3 on the left, and a dog escaped from the home before firefighters arrived. There were no reports of any injuries.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
