Firefighters battle New Year's Day brush fire near Otay Mountain
SAN DIEGO (FOX 5/KUSI) — Firefighters are busy battling a brush fire near Otay mountain on New Year’s Day that has the potential to spread, Cal Fire reports.
Cal Fire San Diego firefighters are on the scene of a brush fire near the Otay Mountain Truck Trail that broke out just before 6:30 p.m. Wednesday.
The Border 1 Fire was burning at 15 acres with a moderate rate of spread as of 7:16 p.m., Cal Fire reports.
The San Diego County Sheriff’s Department says they received a call from a man in Chula Vista who reported to authorities he saw a group of vehicles at the top of Otay Mountain that were reportedly setting off fireworks, which may have started the brush fire.
The sheriff’s department is working to locate suspects.
