Fulton Co. confirmed rabies, parvovirus cases trigger public health alert
GLOVERSVILLE, N.Y. (NEWS10)– Fulton County officials are urging pet owners to vaccinate their pets after confirmed rabies and Parvovirus cases. The Fulton County Regional SPCA said both are highly contagious, and the best prevention method is vaccination.
While rabies can affect many animals, Parvovirus primarily affects dogs and puppies. It can spread rapidly by direct contact with other dogs or contaminated surfaces.
Symptoms of rabies include excessive drooling, aggression, paralysis, or unusual behavior. Parvovirus presents symptoms of severe vomiting, bloody diarrhea, lethargy, and lack of appetite.
Anyone with a pet showing symptoms of rabies or Parvovirus should contact a veterinarian immediately. If not treated quickly, Parvovirus can be deadly. The Fulton County Regional SPCA website provides information about low-cost vaccinations for rabies and Parvovirus or upcoming vaccination clinics.
