Golden Globes red carpet a fashion forecast for ’25
The Golden Globes are always the first huge awards show of the year, and its red carpet gives us a solid look at what to expect for trends in beauty and fashion for the coming year. Without a doubt, Sunday’s awards did just that, with a number of impressive style turns — executions in dresses, suiting, hair, and makeup alike — to keep in mind for the months ahead. Here are some of the best.
Nicole Kidman’s big ‘60s-inspired romantic swoop of bouffant-ish hair. It was huge and glamorous but seemed somehow effortless. I’d expect to see more fun mod and retro styles like this in the near future.
Speaking of retro hair, Emma Stone showed off her new ultra-short pixie cut, sure to inspire more than a few new cuts to come. She balanced it with a classic deep red, strapless Louis Vuitton dress.
I also noticed a lot of full-length gold gowns, as in the dramatic dresses on Cate Blanchett, Demi Moore and Mindy Kaling. If I had to predict, I’d say we’ll see more people attracted to metallics, whether it’s at a dinner party or a resort pool.
Unique statement accessories made a showing too. Exhibit A on this would be Boston’s own Ayo Edebiri (of “The Bear” fame), who donned a gold-dipped feather tie. It was a look that no one else rocked, and stood out as cool, imaginative, and original.
Old Hollywood glamour can always be relied on to show up on the red carpet, and Zendaya brought her A game. In a custom Louis Vuitton gown, she made the color burnt orange a thing. Mark my words: you’ll be seeing more of that around.
Whimsy for men: Some of the guys didn’t hold back on the fun details this time around, and it was downright refreshing. I loved Colman Domingo’s oversized floppy bow and polka dot shirt with a Valentino tuxedo, and Jeremy’s Strong’s mint green bucket hat that matched his Loro Piana suit. Timothy Chalamet’s sparkling Tom Ford suit was sharp as can be, but the best bit was his choice of a long blue scarf.
Suits on women: There was Kate Winslet in a white Erdem suit embellished with black sequined florals. There was Ayo Edebiri, suited in an homage to Julia Roberts’s suit that she wore when she won her Golden Globe in 1990. And Tilda Swinton killed it in a streamlined white and black Chanel suit that, as always, demonstrated her original sense of style.
