Greene County Sheriff's Office investigates fatal Ashland crash

ASHLAND, N.Y, (NEWS10)– The Greene County Sheriff’s Office is investigating a fatal two-car accident in the Town of Ashland. Gina Hernandez, 62, of East Durham, was pronounced dead at the scene.

On Saturday, Oct. 5, around 1:30 p.m. deputies responded to a report of a two-car crash on County Route 10 near Sutton Hollow Road. A preliminary investigation revealed that a United States Postal Service vehicle, operated by Hernandez, was headed east bound while a 2008 Lexus RX 350, operated by a 17-year-old from Ashland, was headed west bound, at which they collided.

Upon the collision, the Postal vehicle overturned. The 17-year-old male was taken to Columbia Memorial Hospital for evaluation.

The Greene County Sheriff’s Office was assisted by the New York State Police and Ashland Fire Department. Ashland Ambulance and the Greene County Paramedics were also on scene.

The cause of the accident is still being investigated by the Sheriff’s Office. Deputies ask anyone with information, to reach out to them at 518-943-3300.
