Gunfire erupts at National City house party, leaving one dead and four injured
NATIONAL CITY, Calif. (FOX 5/KUSI) — Multiple people were shot Friday night after shots rang out at an abandoned house party in National City, authorities said. It’s been confirmed that one person was killed and another four people were injured as a result of the shooting.
Shortly before midnight, officers from the National City Police Department (NCPD) responded to reports of “shots fired” at 1003 N Ave. Upon arrival, the department said officers discovered a chaotic scene with multiple gunshot victims among a large crowd of partygoers.
Due to the severity of the situation and reports that the suspects were still on scene, authorities requested backup from surrounding law enforcement agencies. Officers from the San Diego Police Department, Chula Vista Police Department, San Diego Sheriff’s Office, and Harbor Police all responded to assist.
Four individuals were transported to local hospitals for treatment of their injuries. Despite lifesaving efforts, a fifth victim was pronounced dead at the scene, police confirmed. The victims’ identities have not yet been released.
Investigators believe that the suspect(s) fled the scene prior to police arrival. At this time, the motive behind the shooting remains unclear and authorities are working to piece together evidence from the scene.
NCPD’s Investigations Division is actively pursuing leads in the case. Detectives are urging anyone with information related to the incident to come forward.
