Hayward man pleads guilty after robbing protestor, burning flag
(KRON) — Christopher Khamis Victor Husary pleaded guilty after being accused of assaulting a protestor at a demonstration related to the war between Israel and Hamas in El Cerrito, according to the Contra Costa County District Attorney’s Office.
The robbery occurred on Jan. 6, 2024. According to District Attorney Diana Becton, Husary, 36, used force and intimidation to steal the Israeli flag from a woman. The El Cerrito Police Department said Husary pushed the woman to the ground and burned her flag.
Husary pleaded guilty to one count of robbery and a hate crime enhancement. He was sentenced to 364 days in county jail, which will begin Jan. 2, 2025, and two years of probation.
According to the DA, Husary was arrested by the New York Police Department due to allegedly harassing a Jewish subway passenger on June 10 while he was out on bail.
