I-805/SR-163 connectors to close for roadwork on these days

SAN DIEGO (FOX 5/KUSI) — Motorists in San Diego should expect overnight closures on key freeway connectors starting Sunday, Nov. 17 through Thursday, Nov. 21. This comes as construction crews begin essential roadwork on the Interstate 805/State Route 163 interchange, said officials with Caltrans.

From Sunday through Thursday, the southbound SR-163 connector to southbound I-805 will be closed nightly from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m. Crews will be performing roadway excavation as part of ongoing maintenance and upgrades, the officials explained.

Additionally, the northbound I-805 connector to northbound SR-163 will also be closed during the same hours.

For drivers looking to avoid delays, Caltrans has provided the following alternate routes:

  • Southbound SR-163 to southbound I-805: Continue south on SR-163, then take eastbound I-8 to southbound I-805.
  • Northbound I-805 to northbound SR-163: Exit from northbound I-805 onto eastbound Balboa Avenue, then head north on SR-163.

Motorists are urged to plan for additional travel time during the closures. The construction work schedule may be adjusted due to weather conditions, traffic incidents, or other maintenance-related factors.
