Prior to Election Day, we saw a lot of social media posts from people on their way to “cancel out” a relative’s vote.

Maybe you’re already changing your holiday plans because you don’t think you’ll be able to stand talking with them about politics this year. You’d much rather have a nice, small dinner at home than get into arguments.

Or perhaps they only recently changed their views, and you’re still hopeful that by continuing to talk with them about your concerns you might change their minds. You’ve seen them waver on some things, so you think you might be getting through to them.

Or maybe your family has agreed not to discuss their politics with you anymore, but you saw them post some pretty intense things about the election on social media. Even when it’s not directed at you, it still stings to know that they see things so differently.
