Illinois woman celebrates 104th birthday by voting in 2024 election
OLYMPIA FIELDS, Ill. — A longtime educator and community volunteer celebrated her 104th birthday by casting her vote in the next month’s pivotal election.
“It is important for me to cast my ballot and be counted because people died for me to have this right to vote at 104 years old,” said Jeannie McDuffie, a longtime resident of Arkansas who now lives in Illinois, closer to her family in Olympia Fields.
On Thursday, Oct. 10, family members served her a birthday cake and helped her complete her mail-in ballot for November’s presidential election.
At 104 years old, McDuffie still enjoys traveling, working crossword puzzles, reading, and shopping.
