Inside DIA's lost and found: Bags, electronics and even a bag of dried fish

DENVER (KDVR) — The lost and found at the Denver International Airport became home to thousands of misplaced items in 2024, holding anything from lost luggage to unusual items like a bag with dried fish.

According to the lost and found team at DIA, the airport collects around 200 lost items each day, and only 30-40% of the items make it back to their owners. But what those misplaced items are is a mixed bag.

The most common lost items at the airport are bags, electronics and wallets. The airport also collected 2,646 earbuds that were turned into lost and found throughout 2024. However, the airport ended up seeing much more than luggage at its lost and found.

What was left at DIA’s lost and found in 2024

Here are some of the more “unusual” items that ended up at the airport’s lost and found, according to DIA:

  • Chameleon kit
  • Furry costume
  • Bag with dried fish
  • Sledgehammer
  • Flat screen television
  • Mini fridge
  • Massage table
  • Printer
  • Espresso machine
  • Shriners hat
  • Jewelry box

This isn’t the first time DIA has ended up with some odd items in its lost and found.

In late July 2024, FOXBuisness went behind the scenes and reported DIA’s lost and found had a box of softballs, bicycles, guitars, pet carriers and even a pot of clay labeled “keepsake hands.” These are just some of the many items that get lost at the airport every day.

If you’ve lost an item, you’re not completely out of luck. DIA will hold most lost items for 30 days at the lost and found, which is located in the Jeppesen Terminal Level 1 East, near doors 111-113.
