John Rich is writing a song about Diddy—”kinda dark”

Country singer John Rich has said that he is writing a song about Sean “Diddy” Combs, which one fan has called “kinda dark.”

Combs, a 55-year-old rapper and record producer, was charged with sex trafficking and racketeering in September. The indictment accuses him of running a criminal enterprise over several years that involves coercing individuals to participate in various sexual acts. Combs has pleaded not guilty to the charges. He is being held at the Metropolitan Detention Center in Brooklyn, New York City.

Now Rich has said he is writing a new song, dedicated to Combs, titled “Get My Gun.” According to lyrics the singer posted to X, formerly Twitter, the track is about an omnipresent “evil” running around, with Rich encouraging it to “run.” Newsweek emailed spokespeople for Diddy and Rich for comment on Tuesday outside of normal business hours.

“Writing a new song, dedicated to Diddy: Get My Gun,” Rich’s post reads.

“Evil runs around this town undercover looking for a soul to take/But they better stay away from the righteous hunter, or hell is all they’ll pay/Cause I see around the corner and I know you’re comin/If you had any sense you’d run/But you ain’t got a clue what a Daddy will do/Better give your soul to Jesus while I get my gun/Better give your soul to Jesus while I get my gun.”

“That’s kinda dark John! Just saying! Love you brother,” one fan commented, to which the singer responded: “It certainly is … for them.”

Once the fan realized the song was about Diddy, they added: “Oh now that it’s about Diddy—not dark enough! Recant my earlier critique!”

Other X users also took to the comments to share their thoughts, with one person writing: “You, sir, are my hero.”

“I can’t wait to get to hear this one. Awesome lyrics so far,” said another.

Someone else added: “Oh, I can’t wait to hear the full version to music!”

On Sunday, Grammy-winning rapper Jay-Z vehemently denied allegations after being named in a federal lawsuit that accuses him and Combs of sexually assaulting a 13-year-old girl in 2000.

The federal lawsuit was originally filed in October in the Southern District of New York by Texas-based attorney Tony Buzbee, listing Combs as a defendant. It was refiled Sunday to include Jay-Z, whose legal name is Shawn Carter.

This lawsuit adds to mounting legal challenges for Combs, who has repeatedly asked to be released on bail, with each plea having been denied.

District Judge Arun Subramanian submitted the most recent denial on November 27. He decided that, if Combs was freed, there was no way to guarantee community safety.

Subramanian said the indictment charged Combs with “serious and violent crimes.” He also cited evidence of witness tampering, including Combs initiating a conversation with a witness who was subpoenaed to testify before the grand jury. Combs’ trial is scheduled to begin in May 2025.

Legal representatives for Combs called the suits “shameless publicity stunts, designed to extract payments from celebrities who fear having lies spread about them.” They added that “Mr. Combs has full confidence in the facts and the integrity of the judicial process. In court, the truth will prevail: that Mr. Combs never sexually assaulted or trafficked anyone—man or woman, adult or minor.”

If you or somebody you know is a victim of sexual assault, please do not hesitate to call the National Sexual Assault Hotline at 800-656-HOPE (4673).
