Man killed in early-morning shooting on West Side

CHICAGO — A man was killed early Saturday morning in a shooting that unfolded on the city’s West Side, police said.

Chicago police said the shooting occurred just after 4 a.m. in the 1100 block of South St. Louis Avenue, in Homan Square.

According to police, the victim, a 30-year-old man, was standing on a sidewalk in the area when he was struck in the chest by gunfire.

The victim was later taken to the hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

Currently, it is unclear what led to the shooting or where the gunfire came from and authorities have not yet identified the victim killed.

Police said an investigation into the deadly shooting is now underway and no arrests have been made.
