LAHORE: Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz has announced that 30,000 scholarships will be awarded to talented students across the province under the Honhaar Scholarship Programme.

Today is the last day for registration for the Rs130 billion Honhaar Scholarship Programme for students in Punjab, which was launched under the direction of Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz.

Information desks have been set up at universities and scholarships will be awarded to students in 68 disciplines.

In line with Maryam Nawaz’s vision, 30,000 students will receive scholarships annually. Students from 50 public sector universities across Punjab are eligible for the scholarships. Under the undergraduate programme, scholarships will cover four to five years of education.

It was stated that 30% of matriculation and 70% of intermediate marks will determine the student’s eligibility. Full tuition fees will be covered under the Honhaar Scholarship Programme. Citizens of Punjab under 22 years of age with a family income of less than Rs300,000 are eligible to apply. MBBS and BDS students are also eligible. Applications for the scholarship can be submitted at honhaarscholarship.punjabhec.gov.pk until today, October 18.

The CM said, “Scholarships will be awarded purely on merit to ensure higher education opportunities for students who achieve high grades but lack financial resources.” Meanwhile, Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz in her message on World Poverty Eradication Day said: “A strong, prosperous, and stable society is only possible when the weaker and underprivileged classes are supported.” She added, “Poverty is not just an economic issue but a consequence of a lack of education, healthcare, and justice.”
