Mechanical issue forces Qantas jet to return to Los Angeles International Airport
A mechanical issue forced a Qantas flight headed to Brisbane, Australia, to return to Los Angeles International Airport Wednesday morning.
QF16 left LAX around 8:30 p.m. Tuesday but returned after takeoff and landed around 2:30 a.m.
The airline requested a priority landing but not an emergency landing, a Qantas spokesperson said in a statement.
“The pilots followed normal procedures and returned to LA,” the spokesperson said.
Video showed the plane landed safely and was met by Los Angeles Fire Department personnel.
No injuries were reported and the aircraft will be inspected before returning to service, Qantas stated.
“Customers have been provided accommodation and have been rebooked on alternative flights today,” the spokesperson said.
No further details regarding the mechanical issue were provided.
