Mookie Betts to hand out free turkeys, gift cards in South Los Angeles Thursday
Three-time World Series champion and Los Angeles Dodgers fan favorite Mookie Betts will be handing out gift baskets as part of the annual Thanksgiving Grab and Go! in South Los Angeles’ Vermont Vista neighborhood on Thursday.
“Over 750 families will receive free food baskets, holiday toys, and gift cards,” a news release announcing the event taking place at the Algin Sutton Recreation Center at 8800 S. Hoover St. stated.
Betts will be on hand to give out the baskets complete with a free turkey and trimmings in a drive-thru style format between 10 a.m. and 1:30 p.m.
The event is being hosted by the Los Angeles Dodgers Foundation, Mookie Betts’ 50/50 Foundation and Brotherhood Crusade.
“As part of the 50 Feeds LA Campaign, the 50/50 Foundation has partnered with the Dodgers Foundation to give $100,000 to support Brotherhood Crusade’s food insecurity efforts, providing 400,000 meals to families in South L.A. this year,” the release stated.
Since 2020, the Los Angeles Fire Department has also partnered with the 50/50 Foundation to provide over $550,000 to the Brotherhood Crusade, specifically focusing on food insecurity efforts in South L.A.
