No. 14 Texas stays in SEC title hunt with Alabama sweep

AUSTIN (KXAN) — The Texas volleyball team moved into a tie for second in the Southeastern Conference with a sweep of Alabama on Sunday in Tuscaloosa.

Set scores were 25-16, 25-23, 25-15.

The No. 14 Longhorns hit .357 for the match, led by Madisen Skinner’s 14 kills. She notched a double-double with 10 digs and hit .314. Texas had 10 total blocks and six service aces.

Jenna Wenaas also had a double-double with 10 kills and 10 digs and Ayden Ames had eight kills and four blocks with a .571 hitting percentage. Averi Carlson had 35 set assists.

Alabama led the first set 12-10 before Texas seized control with a 5-0 run. After a tight second set, the Longhorns blew out the Crimson Tide in front of a record crowd of 3,800.

Texas (15-6, 10-3 SEC) swept Alabama and Auburn on the road trip, playing in front of record crowds in both arenas. The Longhorns are tied with Florida for second in the SEC, a game behind Kentucky for the conference lead.

Texas plays Oklahoma in Norman on Friday.
