Northwestern Memorial Hospital nurses throw wedding for patient facing life-threatening surgery
CHICAGO — Nurses at Northwestern Memorial Hospital made a patient’s dream come true before undergoing a risky surgery.
Annesley Clark learned they had a life-threatening infection and a mass growing on their heart three weeks before they were supposed to marry their partner, Christine Corso.
The wedding was postponed, but they still wanted to exchange vows, just in case.
So, on Oct. 9, the day before Clark’s open-heart surgery, nurses transformed the hospital waiting room into a wedding venue in less than 24 hours so the couple could say, ‘I do.’
“I am so grateful for the care that I’ve received from these nurses and these doctors,” Clark said. “They have seen in times that are really, really rough and scary and I’m also glad that they got to witness the enormity of today.”
Corso echoed Clark’s sentiments.
“Just to be able to do our wedding here and have the nurses and the nursing team and the doctors and everyone put this together so fast is really beautiful,” Corso said.
The wedding allowed Clark and Corso to enjoy a few hours of bliss during an otherwise unnerving time. Good news: Clark is now on the mend.
