‘Not for Rs 100 Cr’ Ameesha Patel Rejects Mother-In-Law Role; Takes A Jibe At Gadar 2 Director
Ameesha Patel, widely loved for her portrayal of Sakina in the Gadar franchise, has stirred up a conversation online after making her stance clear on the kinds of roles she’s willing to take on in films. The actress responded to Gadar 2 director Anil Sharma’s comments, where he suggested she should embrace a mother-in-law role as part of her character’s evolution. Despite the potential for a hefty paycheck, Patel made it known that she has no interest in playing such roles, regardless of the offer.
In a recent interview, Anil Sharma explained that Patel had initially hesitated to play a mother-in-law in Gadar 2. He brought up legendary actress Nargis Dutt’s portrayal of a mother in the classic Mother India as an example, arguing that actresses should be open to playing more mature roles as they age. However, Patel was quick to respond on social media, sharing a screenshot of Sharma’s comments on X (formerly Twitter). In her post, Patel expressed her respect for Sharma but firmly stated that she would never take on a mother-in-law role, even for a massive sum like 100 crores.
Dear @Anilsharma_dir dear anilji . Patel clarified her position in the tweet, saying that while it’s just a film, she believes she should have a say in the roles she chooses to play. She added that her fans cherish the Gadar franchise because of the heroic characters of Tara (Sunny Deol) and Sakina, not because they see them as typical father-in-law or mother-in-law figures. For her, the characters’ appeal lies in their strength, courage, and romance, not in traditional family roles.
Despite disagreeing with Sharma’s perspective, Patel made sure to convey her respect for him and his work. She wished him success with his recent project, Vanvaas, which stars Nana Patekar, Simrat Kaur, and Utkarsh Sharma.
This exchange highlights the delicate balancing act many actresses face in their careers, where personal choices must align with both their artistic desires and industry expectations. Patel’s statement serves as a reminder of the importance of artistic freedom and the right to choose roles that align with one’s values and audience connection. It also shows her commitment to maintaining the integrity of her iconic character, Sakina, and staying true to what made Gadar so special to its fans.
