One dies and seven injured as Tesla truck explodes outside Trump hotel in Las Vegas

One person has died and seven others have been injured after a Tesla cybertruck exploded outside a hotel owned by Donald Trump.

The person who died was inside the vehicle, which was outside the US president-elect’s hotel in Las Vegas, Clark County Fire Department officials and Las Vegas Metropolitan Police said.

Work is under way to remove the body, officials said, and the FBI is involved in the investigation.

The seven people also affected were nearby and were taken to a hospital for treatment for minor injuries.

As yet, officials have not provided a cause and details are sketchy following the incident near the Trump International Hotel.

A county spokeswoman said the blaze in the valet area was reported at 8.40am local time (4.40pm UK time).

Tesla boss Elon Musk wrote on X: “The whole Tesla senior team is investigating this matter right now. Will post more information as soon as we learn anything. We’ve never seen anything like this.”

Jeremy Schwartz, acting FBI special agent in charge for the Las Vegas office, said at a news conference: “I know you have a lot of questions. We don’t have a lot of answers.”

Eric Trump, Mr Trump’s son and executive vice president of the Trump Organization, posted about the fire on social media.

He praised fire crews and local police “for their swift response and professionalism”.

The 64-storey hotel is just behind the famous Las Vegas Strip and opposite the Fashion Show Las Vegas shopping mall.
