Pedestrians bothered by anti-Trump sign in downtown Denver using profanity
DENVER (KDVR) — A disturbing sign hung from a downtown Denver condominium balcony is causing a range of reactions from residents and passersby.
“That’s not the only sign I’ve seen like that,” said one pedestrian.
Political signs remain on display in the windows and on balconies near 19th Avenue and Grant Street. While some show support for former Presidential candidate Kamala Harris and President-elect Donald Trump, one uses an offensive word along with Trump’s last name.
“I don’t think they should put that on, no, absolutely not,” said one passerby.
Many told FOX31 the sign is inappropriate, especially considering that elementary students from a nearby school travel through the intersection each day.
One of the building’s residents, who did not want to appear on camera, contacted the Problem Solvers, saying she asked the Homeowner’s Association to demand that the sign be removed.
The Problem Solvers are still waiting to receive a response after reaching out to the HOA several times. Others tell FOX31 that displaying any type of language on a sign is a matter of freedom of speech.
“If they want to have that any of that it doesn’t bother me,” said one Denver resident.
The Problem Solvers found the city ordinance includes different rules for different types of signs.
Any type of non-commercial or political sign on private property must be kept in a clean, orderly, and sightly condition, not be animated, flash, blink, or fluctuate, must not be illuminated and may not be larger than 15 square feet in size.
One Denver resident told FOX31 she feels the rules aren’t tough enough.
“Enough is enough; keep your own opinion to yourself,” she said.
FOX31 asked the city about profanity guidelines and is still waiting for a response.
