Person of interest linked to deadly Thanksgiving Eve shooting in Lincoln Park in custody
CHICAGO – A person of interest sought by Chicago police in connection with a deadly Thanksgiving Eve shooting in Lincoln Park is now in custody, authorities said Wednesday night.
The news comes one day after CPD released images of the person of interest, who police linked to the Wednesday, Nov. 27 shooting death in the 2400 block of N. Clark Street near the Lincoln Park Zoo.
CPD said 34-year-old Alexander Nesteruk, of Wheaton, approached a group of people on the sidewalk in the area and an altercation broke out among them.
During the altercation, an unknown male pulled out a gun and opened fire on Nesteruk, striking him in the chest. Emergency crews rushed Nesteruk to a nearby hospital in critical condition. He died days later on Monday, Dec. 2.
The alleged gunman fled the scene, police added.
According to Ald. Timmy Knudsen (43rd Ward), Nesteruk was exhibiting “erratic and dangerous behavior at the time of the shooting and engaged with the offender aggressively prior to the incident.”
Police said their investigation remains ongoing.
