Trump transition team ramps up

WASHINGTON (NEXSTAR) – With the election now out the way, President-elect Donald Trump is putting together a team of leaders to join his administration in January.

Susie Wiles, Trump’s campaign manager, will be the first woman to ever hold the title of White House Chief of Staff.

The coveted position is one of the most influential roles in any administration and Wiles will have a central role in executing the president’s agenda.

“It’s a critical job and it’s nice for her to be the first person named,” said former WH chief of staff Mick Mulvaney.

Mick Mulvaney served as one of four chiefs of staff during Trump’s first administration.

“Your job is to tell the president things that he doesn’t want to hear,” Mulvaney added.

He says Wiles has a tough job on her hands. Wiles’ first task is to help put together a slate of leaders to staff the White House and key government agencies that include cabinet positions like Secretary of State, Attorney General and Secretary of Defense.

“We will be focused on making a smooth, calm, professional transition,” said Secretary of Defense Lloyd Austin.

Current Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin told reporters Thursday the Biden administration is ready to assist, what remains unclear is if Trump’s legal troubles will follow him to the White House.

Friday, a federal judge agreed to temporarily pause Special Counsel Jack Smith’s January 6th case against Trump.

According to a court filing, Smith made the request to put the case on hold, as a result of the election, and will inform the court on how he plans to move forward December 2nd.
