Valley’s largest drone show at SPI on tap for Saturday
Dec. 5—Cameron County is inviting the public to witness the largest drone show in Valley history on Saturday that will illuminate the sky to a synchronized live rendition of “12 Days of Christmas.”
This year’s production is titled “A Christmas Drone Story II: The 12 Days of Christmas” and will consist of the Valley Symphony Orchestra’s Quintet and Chorale performing at the Cameron County Amphitheater, located at 53550 Dolphin Cove at Isla Blanca Park.
The county held its first drone show last year, according to a news release.
Officials said 600 drones will illuminate the sky during the orchestra’s live rendition of the holiday classic. There will also be a performance from the Harlingen High School South choir and Genuine Cello.
While the general admission to the production is free on the amphitheater lawn, there will also be limited number of reserved seats for $15 available to purchase at https://tixplug.com/shop/a-christmas-drone-story/.
Entrance into Isla Blanca Park is $12 — cash only — per vehicle.
Since the drone show will be taking place on the same day as the city of Port Isabel’s annual Christmas parade, in which the city plans to close State Highway 100 and as a result will temporarily restrict access to South Padre Island, officials are encouraging those interested in attending the production to plan accordingly.
The release says to arrive at the amphitheater by 5 p.m.
Here’s the schedule for the drone show, though the release stated artists and times subject to change:
— 5 p.m. doors open to the public and Harlingen High School South choir’s performance;
— 5:40 p.m. Genuine Cello performance;
— 7 p.m. Valley Symphony Orchestra concert and drone show.
